Brief Project Description: PC Control of DD(X) Rupture Valves was designed and implemented to aide in the testing of the DD(X) Automated Fire Suppression System Engineering Development Model (AFSS-EDM) onboard the ex-USS SHADWELL. This effort included engineering in controls, electrical, and mechanical disciplines as well as building, installation and testing of a control box and field devices. PC Control of the Rupture Valves allowed an operator to simulate a rupture in the piping system by remotely opening the rupture valves. · The Human Machine Interface (HMI) provided open/close operation of the rupture valves as well as open/close status feedback from the actuators. · HMI and control operations were obtained through the use of National Instruments’ LabView 7.1 software and Compact Fieldpoint controller and I/O modules. · Electro-mechanical relays were used to allow 120 VAC control of the actuators by the 24 VDC Compact Fieldpoint relays. |
