Brief Description of Project: The flight deck scenario included several different test requirements. The objective was to test a robotically operated AFFF system under realistic environmental conditions. For the test, a mockup of a UH-60 helicopter was fabricated. The flight deck was covered with perforated "MADMAT" decking over a series of drainage channels. HES also installed remote-operated robotic fire nozzles operated from a mock helo control station. Wind generators were installed to simulate "worst-case" wind conditions during a fire scenario. In order to contain the AFFF, a vinyl retainer was built. This retainer was composed of pipe masts and vinyl tarps and was installed downwind of the wind generators. The overall dimensions were 35 ft high by 115 ft long. |
